Balancing the rotor by balancing machine includes two steps: Measurement and correction of unbalance. Balancing machine is mainly used for measurement of unbalance, while the correction of unbalance is often completed by drilling machine, milling machine, spot welding machine and other auxiliary equipment or manual methods; Some balancing machines have made the calibration device a part of the balancing machine.

Gravity balancing machine and centrifugal balancing machine are two types of typical balancing machines. Gravity balancing machine is generally called static balancing machine, which measures static imbalance by relying on the gravity effect of the rotor itself; If the rotor is placed on two horizontal guide rails, its gravity moment to the axis will make the rotor roll on the guide rails until the unbalance is at the lowest position.

The balanced rotor of the balancing machine is placed on the support supported by hydrostatic bearing, and a reflector is embedded under the support. When there is no unbalance in the rotor, the light beam emitted by the light source is reflected by this mirror and projected at the origin of the polar coordinates of the unbalance indicator.
